We're coming up on nearly one year from one of the best aurora borealis shows that I've ever seen. Just before sunset on the evening of May 10, 2024 we headed east of the city and posted up at one of our favourite spots for viewing the aurora.
It took a little bit to get going and initially the show was looking like a big dud... until it was pointed out to me that I needed to look south. I instantly was presented with a sheet of pink, red, and purple from the horizon to nearly the zenith.
We were able to watch from around 9pm until around 1am and I definitely had some neck pain the next day from all of the staring upwards that was done. We ended up having a layer of forest fire smoke move in just as we were packing up so wouldn't have seen much more anyway.
Hopefully we'll get another good show before the nights are too bright to see them until super late at night. I've been enjoying my early-to-bed nights a lot these days...
