Japan day 3

I spoke too soon.

The rain let up in the afternoon, and while Heather slept off the low-grade fever she’d developed Michelle took the rest of us for a walk down to the creek nearby her house.

There is an elusive Kingfisher that brings many a telephoto lens to the creek side, but we didn’t see it today. What we did see however is the mulberry tree near where it often perches and the shrine dedicated to the Kingfisher who was hit by a car nearby… it’s incredible to see such a respect for nature in such a small but beautiful gesture.

We made our way further down the creek before crossing a bridge and coming to a little patch of bamboo forest in the middle of the neighbourhood. It was very peaceful and quite the experience just “stumbling” upon this oasis of serenity that was literally in people’s back yards.

We ended up back at the shopping centre for lunch at McDonalds (they have a sandwich called the Samurai Mac) which ended up tasting exactly like it does back home… I’m not sure what I expected, but it’s good to know I suppose, hah.

We did some work fixing Michelle’s couch (it basically had fallen apart the night before) and then Michelle and I went for dinner at a nearby izakaya restaurant - the Japanese equivalent of pub food. I might have just had the greatest onion rings I’ve ever eaten!

Heather’s on the mend so hopefully she’ll actually be able to join us for an outing, even if it’s just a brief one.
