Japan Day ???

japan travel kyoto plague

Well, the plague came for me too. I had a fever of 38.9 last night but I’m doing a bit better today.

We’re in Kyoto, having taken the Shinkansen yesterday which was a very cool experience… though not what I expected? There were no seatbelts, for one, though I suspect that at 300 km/hr you’re probably not gonna have much benefit unless you’re in a full harness setup. It was very, very smooth and you could feel the vertical g-forces whenever we made any elevation changes, almost like the world’s wimpiest roller coaster (I’ve pulled more g’s going over old train tracks in Leamington). It took us less than 3 hours to get from Tokyo to Kyoto, and all for around $130 (roughly 13,000 ¥).

I’m hoping tomorrow I’ll be feeling up to doing something, everyone did a tour today including going to see some old steam locomotives (!) and the bamboo forest. Michelle said to me this morning that it’s not the biggest deal in the world that I’m missing today, since we got that very intimate experience with the hidden bamboo forest back in Higashi-Nurume last week anyway. It’d be a hop-on/hop-off bus tour tomorrow, which does interest me greatly since there will be some good history to learn.

It’s a shame Heather and I have been taken down by Typhoid Mary but fingers crossed that the rest of the trip goes smoothly!

I’ve included some photos of the trip to Enoshima that Michelle and the parentals took while Heather and I were laid up on Sunday.
